BIKE TYPES: MTB / URBAN / E-BIKES / FOLDABLE / TRIATHLON
BH is one of the largest Spanish bicycle manufacturers – albeit mostly from the assembly side. It assembles around 200,000 bicycles per year with half of them sold in Spain and Portugal. And their factory is based in the Basque region of Spain – Vitoria-Gasteiz.
It is one of the few foldable bike makers in Europe and I also really like their gravel e-bikes. Battery integration is barely visible, and it is housed, in no other, but a carbon frame.
These days the company is no longer just a bicycling manufacturer. After the factory upgrade, when it acquired some CNC laser machining, it diversified to supply other companies. Hence now it makes parts for BMW and Mercedes-Benz too.
Interestingly initially it started as a gun manufacturer in 1909. After the First World War the company changed to a bicycle manufacturer in 1923. But even during this time it fulfilled some special gun orders from the government.
Just in case you wondered – BH stands for Beistegui Hermanos. No wonder they keep it short for the European markets.
This post is part of European Bike Maker list.
