Orvieto Concave Mug

Orvieto concave mug is ideal for people who like large mugs. They come in two sizes  – large (12 oz / 354 ml) and very large (17 oz / 502 ml).

And of course, just like with all our products and especially the Orvieto range, they also come with a heartwarming story about Italian history and art.

Each Italian region developed their own artisanship, especially when it came to decorating ceramics. As time is passing by there are fewer and fewer artisans who can re-create the style that dates back to the Rennaissance era. Part of the challenge is that it is only thought from person to person and only in the Orvieto region. There aren't exactly online course one could take.

Ceramic earthenware mugs also old gracefully – with time you will notice small hairline cracks in the glazing. This is a sought after effect, which will not affect how the mug holds your drink but adds even more character.

Size guide:
Large: 12 oz (354 ml), diameter - 3.6 inch (9.1 cm),  height - 4.25 inch (10.7 cm)
Very large: 17 oz (502 ml), diameter - 4 inches (10.1. cm), height - 4.75 inches (12 cm)

More About Orvieto Town

Maiolica (tin glazed earthenware) has been produced in Orvieto since the 13th century. And its artisans were recognised as the master craftsmen (known as Vascellari) across Italy and beyond.

Walking around town today, aim for Pozzo della Cava, as here you can still find the furnace from the 15th century, and the ceramics factory that was used until the 16th century.

The Cathedral - Duomo di Orvieto, is hard to miss too. It stands above all the buildings in the city and is likely take your breath away when you get closer. Decorative tiles on it were made locally and are reflective of the "Orvieto style", unique to this region.
